THE BAND
Stage Fright / Moondog Matinee / Northern Lights - Southern Cross / Islands
(Capitol)
Melody Maker, 1990?

2009 update: I wouldn't bother with any of them to be honest, The Band is the only one you really need. Even Music From Big Pink--a bona fide Classic, "epochal", incredibly influential, etc--seems dispensible to me, pales next to eponymous. With the exception of "The Weight", there's something creaky and strained about it.

Worthy and dull are two words from the vast lexicon that come to mind. Glorified pub rock with waistcoats and battered hats.

That might admittedly by utterly unfair; just based on a few fleeting experiences of The Band. Just struck me as honest but/and drab. Musical oatmeal. "Go on, get it down yeh. It's good for you."
